Sydney day 2 (12/29/2011)

Had a great 2nd day here in Sydney.  Woke up to a few loud birds that sounded like they were killing each other outside our open windows around 6:15.  Thankfully my rommate, Jason, was woken up as well so we decided to go on about a 4 miles run.  The run was nice.  It was nice being able to wake up without feeling a large strain of jet lag weighing down on my shoulders.  There was a nice cool breeze throughout the run whihc was nice.  After the run we ate a bowl of cereale and met up with other classmates and our professors to start our daily travels.

Our main goal was to stop by the Sydney museum which we had an "okay" time at.  Museums usually make me extremely tired unless it has something to do with a few interests of mine but this one was based on surfing, old history or the city (which was cool), but nothing that really made you take a second look.  I was yawing the whole way through, my feet were tired, and the whole group was pretty darn hungry.

I found it interesting, once again, that all of the construction sites that we passed today have no Hispanic workers laboring away on their daily tasks.  I am so used to seeing a certain type of person doing the dirty work on construction sites that it really has kept me looking back trying to find someone that is not of a Caucasian background.  This also brings up how I can't think of seeing one person of a "dark color", if i may.  I find this very interesting and will keep all of you guys updated.

So, I walked into this cafe called TERU and in which they serve beer, and pizza (not to mention their free wifi) and was completely taken back by their hospitality.  The lady that I spoke with inside when I was trying to grab a cold beer and a quick bite to eat said that there was a private party that was going to be taking up the entire cafe but that I could sit outside on their porch and she would sneak out and serve me when she could.  I was pretty blown away because I'm pretty dang sure that I would not get that type of response back in the States.

Looking forward to getting back to this snack and continuing on my adventures.

  1. I had similar feelings about the museum. I had hoped it would contain more interesting objects. I mostly enjoyed seeing old pictures of how the Sydney skyline has developed through the years. Nice job staking out Pancakes on the Rocks! Not the best service, but the food was pretty darn tasty!
