Brisbane day 2 - The mountain

This is a much better read if you listen to Ryan Adams – Why do they leave on YouTube while you read this.

Today was a pretty good one.  We woke up early to head to a mountain that looked over the city of Brisbane.  This mountain is exactly like the view from the cannon that is right down the street from my house in Birmingham.  Surprisingly, the city of Brisbane looks exactly like Birmingham.  The only difference from the two cities is Brisbane has about 13 visible sky scrapers downtown.  Brisbane seems to be a booming city.  Before we got to the top of the mountain we took a 20min bus to the bottom of the hill even though you could easily have stayed on the bus and taken it all the way up to the top.  So we got off at the bottom of the hill not knowing that it was about a 5 miles until we would reach the top of the mountain.  As we continued up the endless 35 degree sloped mountain I decided to make things interesting and challenged a buddy to a run up to the top to help time pass by quicker as well as utilize a different set of muscles to get up to the top.  After a long haul up the mountain we quickly decided to return back down after overlooking the city for 5 minutes. The decent was much more interesting due to the fact that we found a trail on the other side of the mountain to take back down.  I’m not too sure if our teacher knew exactly where it would lead but as far as we were concerned, anything that went downhill passed the “sniff test”.  As we continued down the trail most of the group decided to go the scenic route while three others and I decided that we were going to try and get back ourselves.  We walked about 30 min before seeing any signs of life.  It was actually pretty peaceful just walking through a forest and hearing nothing but all the different types of wildlife.  I actually recorded some of the sounds I heard and can’t wait to show them to my parents.  I think my brother would be really interested in hearing some of the birds that were screaming at us as our walk continued.  Anyways, we finally found a main road and stood there trying to decided whether we should go right or left.  As soon as we made the decision to go left a “out of service” bus came into view and we began to wave them down… They didn’t look like they were going to stop but did.  They let us know that going left would be a huge mistake and it would have taken us a long time to get back to where we needed to be.  After the bus driver realized how clueless we were he ordered us onto the bus and drove us to where we needed to be.  It was a nice gesture and a much needed one at that.  The day before I had been flicked off by a driver for no apparent reason and yelled at by some crazy nut job that was outside of our apartment.  He must have wanted my groceries.  So we got back from the mountain trip and just hung out for most of the day until we went to the cricket match.  Brisbane won against all odds.  I never knew that I would learn how cricket was played but it turns out it’s a pretty interesting game.  I didn’t like it as much as football or any other sport that I know of to be honest but it’s fun knowing what it is and how it is played.  I am on a train out to the Gold Coast now and look forward to surfing all day today.  Once I get internet I will post all of my blogs up.  Sorry for the delay but internet was 75 dollars the place we have been staying.  Hope y’all have a wonderful day!
